Hurricane St. Jude- one of the strongest storms in Britain in a decade- is expected to strike the coast of southern England and Wales in a couple of hours from now. This would lead to heavy rains for the first six to nine hours. Strong winds of up to 130 kmph would also be witnessed that may uproot trees and cause power cuts in the region.
Ahead of the storm, Heathrow Airport authorities have warned travellers of flight delays. Several trains have also been cancelled in the wake of the storm.
The weather system after developing in the Atlantic Ocean moved northwards and is expected to hit Cornwall and Devon Monday morning. It will then move across the country before arriving in East Anglia. The Met Office said the expected wind strengths would be similar to the storms of March 2008, January 2007 and October 2000.
