New Delhi, Friday, August 10, Widespread showers are expected over east Gujarat areas adjacent to west Madhya Pradesh during the next twenty four hours. With this, rain is also likely to increase over east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and coastal Orissa during this period.

The concentration of rainfall over adjoining areas of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat continues with a slight change as this time, east Gujarat is expected to receive first widespread showers of the season. Heavy to very heavy showers are likely to enlighten the spirit of people in east Gujarat as the monsoon trough has dip a bit south.

The monsoon trough is working in tandem with the persisting low pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh. Monsoon trough is essentially a region of intensified monsoon winds. The monsoon trough is passing through Bikaner, Jaipur, centre of the low pressure area, Pendra, Jharsuguda and Balasore to the central east Bay of Bengal.

The Western Disturbance over the areas of China close to India has moved on but some parts of it are still hanging over interacting with the monsoon trough as well as the low pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh.  So rain intensity would decrease over the northwest plains in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. Light rain is expected to continue over these places in the next twenty four hours.

Another cyclonic circulation has developed over the head Bay of Bengal. This weather system is expected to increase rain over Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh, Telangana starting from coastal areas of Orissa and Andhra Pradesh in the next twenty four hours. Heavy rain at a few places over these areas cannot be ruled out. This circulation is also expected to increase downpour over northeastern states.

Rainfall activities are predicted to increase in the coastal areas of Karnataka and Kerala during the next one or two days while moderate rain would continue at many places along the coast over south coastal Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa. The seasonal offshore trough extending from south coastal Maharashtra to Kerala coast has strengthened and generating showers over these areas.

West Rajasthan, Saurashtra and Kutch and south Tamil Nadu remain mainly dry as moisture in the southwesterly winds is not enough to bring rain.
