cold Cropped(1)As reiterated by Skymet, a fresh Western Disturbance in Jammu and Kashmir from Saturday onwards has aggravated the cold day conditions in the plains of North India. Maximums in the region are recording 10 degrees below normal on an average.

Amritsar in Punjab recorded 13.4°C as the day temperatures on Sunday morning, which is 8 degrees below the normal average. Chandigarh saw the maximum settle at 13.1°C, again 8 degrees below normal. In Patiala the maximum settled 11 degrees below normal at 9 degrees celcius, while Ludhiana recorded a maximum of 10.1°C.

Haryana too is bearing the brunt of extreme cold day conditions. Maximum temperature in Ambala on Sunday morning settled at 9.6°C, which is a whopping 11 degrees below the normal average. Hisar saw the maximum settle at 12.3°C, again 11 degrees below normal, while Karnal witnessed a maximum of 11°C, 10 degrees below normal.

The capital Delhi is also observing massive drop in maximum temperatures. The city recorded 15°C as the day temperature on Sunday, which is 7 degrees below normal and the lowest of the season so far.

These temperature profiles clearly indicate that day-time is really cold in North India along with night hours. The temperatures are going to maintain till December 24, after which we will observe some rise in maximums. This is because the Western Disturbance in Jammu and Kashmir would have moved away by that time and the skies would clear allowing ample sunshine. Any hope of snowy Christmas in the hills would be dashed with the clearing of the Western Disturbance.
