Most parts of India are still maintaining the trend of observing a three digit rainfall figure. During last 24 hours, most parts of the country have recorded rainfall above 100 mm.
Monsoon was vigorous over coastal Odisha along with Northeastern parts of Madhya Pradesh. Therefore most of the places in these two states have recorded three digit showers.
The table below shows rainfall above 100 mm recorded over most of regions of the country during last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday:
The reason for these hefty showers can be attributed to two cyclonic circulations. One that persists over East Uttar Pradesh while the other is seen over West Rajasthan.
A depression is also seen over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas.
In fact, during next 24 hours, extremely heavy showers at a few places are further expected over East Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Gangetic West Bengal. Odisha is also likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall in another 24 hours.
