August 31, 2015 12:46 PM |

Rain in Northeast India (2)Heavy to very heavy rains will continue to pound several areas of Northeast India for next two to three days. Few places might also record extremely heavy rainfall during this period.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the low pressure area that has now weakened into a cyclonic circulation has pulled the Monsoon trough northwards.

The trough is now passing through the foothills of Himalayas, covering entire Northeast region. This has led to significant weather activity over Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim during last 48 hours.

Meanwhile, Nagaland, Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram (NMMT) recorded scattered good showers, with one or two places receiving heavy showers.

Skymet predicts that similar weather conditions will prevail over the region in coming days and more Monsoon rains will drench the region. With this, flood scare has made a comeback to the state of Assam and Meghalaya as river levels are expected to increase.

Let us have a look at the rainfall figures recorded during span of last 48 hours.

Table--Rain in Northeast India

Present spell of heavy rain is expected to reduce the rain deficiency over Assam and Arunachal Pradesh region and NMMT region, which stands at 3% and 29%, respectively on August 30.

According to the meteorologists, there will be large variations in the weather activity across the several regions of the country during the month of September. At present, North India is observing least weather activity, while Northeast India is recording heavy rainfall.
