Single digit maximum temperatures seem to rule the roost. Left to find soothing warmth under the wraps of thick blankets, residents of Amritsar are reeling under record breaking cold day conditions.
With the maximum temperature hovering around single digit, unlike for this time,Amritsaroutdid its previous record of last 10 years. The 8.4°C of maximum temperature on 18thDecember, 2014 was the second lowest maximum after the lowest of 9.4°C recorded in 2012 on 30thDecember.
The minimum temperatures of 3.6°C on 19thDecember and 2.4°C on 18thDecember have also added on to the persistent cold in Amritsar.
The holy city of Punjab usually observes such single digit maximums towards the end of December, making New Year celebrations lively against the backdrop of bone chilling cold.
Apart from freezing cold, a thick cover of dense fog also affected normal life in last few days. Amritsar was slightly better than yesterday as visibility was 50 meters today as compared to nil yesterday.
