Delhi witnesses 10 mm rain in three hours, more showers likely
Delhi rains finally made an appearance giving residents a reason to rejoice. Since the beginning of the month of March, weather conditions had remained unusually warm and dry. No rains were being observed over the national capital for so long.
Since the morning hours of today, weather conditions had become cloudy. In fact, rain bearing clouds were hovering over the national capital. During the last afternoon hours, almost the entire city witnessed good rains.
In fact, a few areas including New Friends Colony and other areas of South Delhi received a few sharp spells of rainfall. Thunderstorm and lightning was also reported in some parts. The NCR region including Gurugram as well as Noida also witnessed a few rainy spells.
During the last three hours between 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm, Safdarjung observatory recorded a good 10 mm of rainfall while Palam received 2 mm of rain.
Now, during the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain and thundershowers will continue over Delhi and the NCR region. In fact, the possibility of a few heavy spells also cannot be ruled out. However, the rainfall intensity is expected to reduce by March 11.
Due to these rains, temperatures have already come down. In fact, the residents of Holi are expected to witness the winter chill during the night time. Holi is also expected to be a chilly affair as temperatures will witness a steep drop.
Rain in Delhi to commence anytime now
As predicted by Skymet Weather, rain and thundershowers are likely to begin anytime over Delhi-NCR. Intense clouding can be seen over the national capital and rains are likely to follow soon.
Rising mercury along with high humidity levels led to the development of convective clouds over the city. Weathermen predict that intensity of rain and thundershowers will be more over southern and western parts of Delhi-NCR that include areas such as Palam, R K Puram, Vasant Vihar, Vasant Kunj, Mehrauli, Saket, Dhaula Kuan, Rajaouri Garden, etc.
These clouds have arrested the rise in mercury, which is presently hovering around 26°C. With this, the city is witnessing extremely pleasant weather conditions.
Rain in Delhi expected tomorrow
After witnessing dry spell for more than a month, Delhi has started witnessing few short spell of light rain activity. This light rain is only paving way for more rainy days to come. On Friday, March 10, Delhi is expected to witness some good rainy spell.
In the last 2 days, Delhi and NCR has been witnessing light rain activity at a few places. The weather system that is affecting Delhi’s weather is an active Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir. This Western Disturbance has induced a cyclonic circulation over Northeast Rajasthan and adjoining Haryana. From this system a trough is extending up to West Uttar Pradesh across Delhi.
All these factors in place, clouds will develop in the late afternoon-evening of March 9 over Delhi NCR. According to Skymet Weather, rain with thundering activity is expected to commence over Delhi NCR on night of March 9. This rain intensity is expected to increase on March 10. But the spell of rainfall is likely to be light to moderate only.

The spread of rain is likely to be more, but the frequency of spells will be intermittent. Light to moderate rains with one or two good spell can be expected at one or two places.
This weather activity will make way for a pleasant weather during Holi which will be celebrated on Monday.
