In the last 24 hours as well, Mumbai city has not witnessed any showers. In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, the Santa Cruz observatory as well as the Colaba observatory have not witnessed even an inch of rains.

However, the cyclonic circulation which was overChhattisgarhnow lies over South Chhattisgarh and adjoining Vidarbha region. Hence, a few light rainy spells along with isolated moderate showers during night are foreseen over the state capital for another 24 hours.

Thereafter, by October 2, Mumbai city may witness some isolated showers as well.

Mainly partly cloudy sky will prevail over the city and temperatures are also likely to scale up to a small extent.

Monsoon rains will continue to be on break for at least next two days. Thereafter, we can expect intensity of rains to increase once again and light to moderate showers will reappear.

Monsoon rains have dried up in the city of Mumbai

September 28, 201603:30 PM

From what it looks like, the Monsoon rains have bid adieu to the City Of Dreams. During last 24 hours there has not been any rainfall activity seen over Mumbai. In fact, both the observatories in Mumbai recorded almost nil rainfall.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, the Santa Cruz observatory had witnessed 1.6 mm of rains while the Colaba observatory received 0 mm showers.

The absence of rainfall is due to the absence of any significant weather system over the region.

The weather conditions are near palpable as the afternoons are sultry with high humidity levels. During morning and evening, the city can observe the cool sea breeze making the weather conditions better.

As of now also, no noteworthy weather system is prevailing but localized development of clouds due to close proximity of the region to Arabian Sea may give occasional light showers over Mumbai. These rains are mainly expected towards early morning or late afternoon.

Colaba in Mumbai receives 165 mm of rain, more showers ahead

Mumbai rains have been a surprise package in the month of September. Usually, the city receives the least amount of rains in September as compared to the other three Monsoon months. However, this year has been different.

A few days ago, it seemed like heavy Monsoon rains had taken a step back and would only return during the next Monsoon season. However, rain gods had a surprise in store and Mumbai witnessed some record breaking rains during the last few days.

The maximum city has been receiving heavy rains for the past six days now and showers are expected to continue during the next 24 hours as well. Monsoon rains to take a break over Mumbai

September 23, 201605:00 PM

Mumbai has received heavy to very heavy rain in the last 48 hours. But now the heavy rainfall saw a decrease in intensity in the last 24 hours. The rain intensity has decreased evidently over the city but sky happens to remain overcast.

From 08:30 am on Thursday to 08:30 am on Friday, Colaba observatory in Mumbai recorded 45 mm of rainfall. During the same 24 hours Santa Cruz observatory recorded heavy rains of 39.7 mm.

Due to the overcast nature of sky and weakening of the Monsoon surge we expect few good spell of Monsoon rains to continue for another 24 hours. These rains may be moderate in nature but thereafter the intensity in rainfall will decrease drastically.

Scattered light rain will go on till September 26. On September 27-28, another surge is expected around that time. The rain intensity will once again increase and we expect few moderate to heavy showers to return over the Maximum City.

Till date, for the month of September, the city of Mumbai has received 609.6 mm of rains against its monthly mean of 312.3 mm.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, the Colaba observatory had recorded a whopping 146 mm of rains while the Santa Cruz observatory received 104 mm rainfall.

These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation that was over Saurashtra and SouthGujaratregion. This has increased the Monsoon surge over Konkan and Goa region. With this, moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers will continue over Mumbai during the next 24 to 48 hours as well. However, these rains are likely to be intermittent in nature.

Till date, the city has already received around 570 mm of rainfall as compared to its monthly average rainfall of 312.3 mm. Hence, the city has surpassed its monthly mean. With more rain on the cards, the rain surplus of the city is likely to increase even more.

Good rains have been lashing the capital city ofMaharashtrafrom past few days now. During last 24 hours as well, the city has received good rains. In fact, the day before also, Mumbai has witnessed extremely good rainfall recording three digit rains as well.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, the Santa Cruz observatory had witnessed 35.4 mm of rains while the Colaba observatory received 30.8 mm showers.

Reason for these showers can be attributed to an upper air cyclonic circulation that persist over southwestMadhya Pradeshand adjoining Gujarat region including north Madhya Maharashtra.

The monthly average rainfall for the city of dreams is 312.3 mm and till date the city has already received 300.3 mm of rains. Hence, in a nutshell, it seems that Mumbai city will be able to surpass its monthly average pretty easily.

Heavy Mumbai rains to continue, city inches closer to its monthly mean

Sep 17, 201603:30 PM

Mumbai rains have once again picked up after light rains were observed over the maximum city. So much so that the city was witnessing dry weather conditions only. However, during the last few days, Mumbai has received good Monsoon showers.

These Monsoon rains have occurred due to the cyclonic circulation which is currently over Madhya Maharashtra. Due to this weather system, the coastal areas have been witnessing increased moisture incursion. During the next 24 hours, Mumbai is expected to receive moderate to heavy rains. The possibility of a few very heavy spells also cannot be ruled out from the city.

So far, Mumbai has recorded a good 208.2 mm of rainfall against its monthly average of 312 mm. While the possibility of surpassing its monthly mean looked bleak a while ago, it seems that the maximum city will easily be able to surpass its monthly rain figures.

More heavy Monsoon rains to lash Mumbai

September 16, 201615:00

After a prolonged period of dry spell, Monsoon rains have made a striking comeback over the capital state ofMaharashtraon the auspicious day of Ganpati Visarjan. Mumbai has received heavy to very heavy showers during last 24-48 hours. These Monsoon rains have created havoc over the city which remained dry for quite some time now.

In fact, in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, the Santa Cruz Observatory inMumbaihas received a whopping of 81 mm of rainfall. And 56 mm of rains has happened over Colaba Observatory.

These rains can be attributed to the low-pressure area over Telangana and the adjoining areas. Due to this weather system, the West Coast has observed increased Monsoon rains owing to the moisture incursion over the region.

Now, this low-pressure area has become less marked, however, the associated cyclonic circulation still persists over the region. Thus, we can expect heavy to very heavy Monsoon rains over most parts of the city during the next 24-48 hours.

Mumbai rains make a grand comeback, record 64 mm rain in 3 hours

Sep 15, 201604:30 PM

Situation improves for Mumbai, rains blesses the city

September 14, 201612:53 PM

After witnessing a prolonged dry spells, rains have finally blessed the capital state ofMaharashtra. Mumbai has witnessed a few good showers during last 24 hours.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Santa Cruz observatory received 5.7 mm rainy spells. On the contrary, during the similar time frame, the Colaba observatory witnessed 2.6 mm wet spells.

The reason for these light showers can be attributed to a low pressure area presently prevailing overAndhra Pradesh. Furthermore, this system is likely to shift westwards towards the central parts of the country.

Due to close proximity of this system over Mumbai, few more moderate to heavy showers are expected to lash the state capital by September 15. Moreover, these rains are likely to continue for another 3-4 days.

Possibility of some heavy to extremely heavy showers cannot be ruled out as well. Moreover, Mumbai is also likely to witness rainfall in three digit which the city was thriving for so long. So far Mumbai city has already recorded 69 mm of rainfall.

Monsoon rains to go relentless over Mumbai

More heavy showers on cards for Mumbai

September 12, 201601:30 PM
After a prolonged dry spell over Mumbai, the state capital has finally managed to receive some relief from past 2 days. During last 48 hours, the capital city ofMaharashtraobserved a few wet spells. Moreover, during last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Santa Cruz observatory received 8 mm rainy spells. On the contrary, during the similar time frame, the Colaba observatory witnessed a few traceable showers. The reason for these light spells is the cyclonic circulation which was over west central Bay of Bengal that has now induced a low pressure area over SouthOdisha. Furthermore, this low pressure area is expected to move in a westerly direction. By September 15, this weather system is likely to reach coastal Maharashtra and continue to give good showers over Konkan & Goa as well as Mumbai for next 2-3 days. So, it can be said that Maharashtra including Mumbai is finally expected to witness good rains for which it has been thriving for.

Subdued for now, heavy rains on the cards for Mumbai

September 11, 201602:30 PM
After prolonged spell of subdued rains over many parts ofMumbai, the city finally received good rainfall on September 9.  On that particular day, the Santa Cruz observatory received 27 mm of rains. But there has been a significant shift in the rainfall intensity in the last 24 hours. Only light rain has occurred in some parts of the city. According to Skymet Weather, subdued rainfall activity is expected to continue till September 14. Thereafter the rain intensity will pick up pace significantly and moderate to heavy showers will commence over the city of Mumbai. These rains will happen over the region due to the weather system (cyclonic circulation) which is at present seen over North CoastalAndhra Pradeshand adjoining areas.  This cyclonic circulation is expected to intensify in to a low pressure system and move in a westerly direction. By September 15 this weather system will reach coastal Maharashtra and continue to give good showers and Konkan &Goaas well as Mumbai for next 2-3 days. For the Monsoon season starting on June 1, 2016, the city has received 1789.2 mm of rains against the normal rainfall of 1857.2 mm of rains. That means Mumbai is still 5% below the normal rainfall.Image Credit: InstagramPlease Note: Any information picked from here must be attributed to skymetweather.com

Mumbai receives good rains, activity to reduce

Sep 10, 201603:45 PM
Mumbai rains have been a disappointment during the month of September. In fact, rains have been far and few and not even one hefty spell of Monsoon rain has made an appearance into the maximum city. These weather conditions could be attributed to the absence of any weather system over the region. In fact, the entire West Coast has been witnessing subdued rains for quite some time now. The areas that have been receiving rains have been recording single digit rains. However, the last 24 hours have been good enough for the maximum city. Good Monsoon rains have finally made an appearance over Mumbai giving the residents what they had been craving for so long. In a span of 24 hours, Mumbai recorded a good 27 mm of rain. However, the Colaba observatory witnessed dry weather conditions only. The next 24 hours may witness reduced activity as the last spell was a reason of some localized weather activity.

Declining trend for Mumbai rains continues

September 9, 201612:10 PM
Rains over Mumbai have again taken a backseat. After pouring light spells over the state capital last day, the city of dreams have again failed to witness any showers. In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, both the Colaba observatory as well as the Santa Cruz observatory have not recorded any rainfall. Maximum temperatures settled at 32°C while the minimum recorded was 25°C. Since there has not been any significant weather system prevailing over Mumbai, therefore possibility of heavy showers are ruled out. However, since the withdrawal of Monsoon has not commenced yet, few rainy spells are still expected to occur over the capital ofMaharashtrafor another 24 hours. Weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with day’s temperatures remaining in the upper 30’s. While, the minimum is likely to settle close to 25°C. Hence, at present, Monsoon rains are not showing much rosy picture for the city of dreams.

Light rain blesses Mumbai after a long span

September 8, 201611:47 AM
The saga of declining Monsoon rains was continuing over Mumbai from a long time now. However, after remaining dry for a long period of time, Mumbai was finally blessed with a few light showers. The cyclonic circulation was overGujaratwhich has been a helping hand in offering rains over the capital ofMaharashtra. In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, the Colaba observatory witnessed 0.8 mm spells while the Santa Cruz observatory has managed to measure 5.5 mm of showers. Day’s temperature also settled close to 30°C while the minimum settled at 25°C. But now, this cyclonic circulation over Gujarat is likely to weaken and its impact is expected to affect the weather of Mumbai. Thus, rain over the city is expected to decline further. The prevalent offshore trough and Monsoon surge has also weakened significantly. Therefore, mainly dry weather is expected to continue over entire Konkan andGoaincluding Mumbai. However, occasional light rains over some parts of the city are still foreseen due to localised development of clouds over the region. Close vicinity of Mumbai near the Sea may also lead to some isolated spells.

Light rain shortly in Mumbai

September 7, 2016 14:52
Southwest Monsoon is now witnessing a declining trend in rains and so are rains over Mumbai. Rains have reduced significantly over the city. It’s been days since the capital city of Maharashtra has witnessed any good showers. In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, the Colaba observatory has not witnessed any showers while the Santa Cruz observatory has managed to measure merely 0.2 mm of wet spells. Moreover, there was a slight rise in the temperatures as well. During the similar time frame, Mumbai has witnessed day’s temperature settling up at 31.3°C while the minimum settling at 25.4°C. Due to the absence of any significant weather system, possibility of good rains over the state capital is almost nil. Moreover, weakening of the offshore trough which was over Konkan & Goa could also be a reason for lesser rains over Mumbai. There does not seem much changes in the prevailing weather conditions over Mumbai. However due to a cyclonic circulation over Gujarat, northern parts and the coastal areas of Mumbai are likely to witness few light wet spells.

No good showers likely over Mumbai as of now

September 6, 2016 12:36 PM
Mumbai is at present witnessing a decreasing trend in rains. September has been unfortunate in bringing in some good showers. However, last good spells that the city has observed were during the initial days of August. since then, rains have been playing the game of hide and seek with the state capital. In a pan of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, the Santa Cruz observatory of the city has not witnessed any showers while, the Colaba observatory recorded mere 1.4 mm of rainy spells. As of now also, due to absence of any significant weather system, not much rains are predicted for the capital city of Maharashtra. However, the state capital may observe very light spells generally towards early mornings or late afternoon. Cool breeze is likely to prevail over parts of the state making the mornings and evenings pleasant. Though afternoons are expected to witness warm weather conditions. As there are no possibilities of hefty showers over the city, weather is expected to remain pleasant for the ongoing Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

Mumbai rains on decreasing drift now

September 5, 2016 1:36 PM
Mumbai rains are facing a decreasing drift now. Mumbai has not witnessed much rains from past few days. Only light wet spells have been blessing the capital city of Maharashtra now. In fact, during last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, the Santa Cruz observatory of the city has not witnessed any showers while, the Colaba observatory recorded traceable amount of rainy spells. As of now, as the offshore trough is becoming weak, only few scattered showers are likely over the city however, these rains are expected to be patchy in nature. Only the isolated pockets of the state capital may get affected by these showers. No significant increase in rains is expected in the next week over coastal Maharashtra including Mumbai. Further, Ganesh Chaturthi, a 10 days long festival commencing from Monday is expected to be celebrated smoothly due to absence of heavy rains as of now. However, few light drizzles may make the weather conditions colossal.

Meager Monsoon rains continues over Mumbai

September 04, 2016 03:15 PM
Mumbai received a few good spells of Monsoon rains in the month of August. Even though Mumbai hardly managed to surpass the monthly mean of 529.7 mm thanks to a few good spells of rain in the last few days of the month, the month of September has been rainless for the city. The city of Mumbai experienced scattered showers in the last 24 hours, and in the next 24 hours also, these scattered rainfall activity will continue. Isolated light rain in some parts of the city can be witnessed. Weather over Mumbai will remain warm and humid with partly cloudy sky and for next few days. Subdued rainfall activity will continue and light showers in isolated pockets of the city can be expected. The monthly average rainfall of Mumbai for the month of September is 312.3 mm of rains and with the subdued start of rainfall in the month it I shard for the city to reach its monthly mean even. In the last 24 hours from Saturday 08:30 AM, the Santa Cruz observatory in Mumbai received a mere 0.8 mm of rains whereas Colaba observatory received 2 mm of rains.Image Credit: InstagramPlease Note: Any information picked from here must be attributed to skymetweather.com

Subdued rains to continue over Mumbai

September 2, 2016 11:24 AM
Mumbai rains are witnessing a decreasing trend now. The state capital has not witnessed much rainfall from last couple of days. However, few good spells are making their on and off appearance over the city. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, the Santa Cruz observatory witnessed light spells of 3.6 mm while Colaba observatory has witnessed 6.2 mm rainy spells. As there is no significant weather system over the state capital. Additionally, an offshore trough also persists towards south of Mumbai coast. Therefore, rains over Mumbai are likely to reduce and witness a downfall. Moreover, humid weather is likely to prevail across the city. Though light to very light rains are possible for a short period of time. The capital of Maharashtra is expected to witness breezy mornings along with generally cloudy sky. As of now, rains are not portraying a very rosy picture for Mumbai. Also, due to the absence of rains, temperatures of Mumbai are also expected to witness a rise and settling above normal by one degree.

Monsoon to remain subdued over Mumbai

Sept 1, 201603:50 PM
The Southwest Monsoon continues to play hide and seek with Mumbai, as good rains remain far and few. In span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, the entertainment capital recorded negligible 0.5 mm of rain. Moreover, weathermen do not foresee any change in the weather conditions during the next 2-3 days. According to Skymet Weather, Monsoon will remain subdued over Mumbai which can only expect scattered light rain during the next few days. Decrease in rain activity can be attributed to the absence of any significant weather system. The feeble off-shore trough running along the West Coast has become inactive. The city has target of 312.3 mm of rain for the month of September. Also, due to the lack of rains, both the maximum and minimum temperatures have registered a rise and are settling above normal by one degree.

Mumbai rains witnessing decreasing trend

August 31, 2016 03:30 PM
Rains have taken aback in Mumbai. Though the state capital has witnessed a few light spells in last 2 days but heavy showers were witnessed by Mumbai a couple of days back. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, both the Santa Cruz and Colaba observatory had witnessed merely 1.8 mm rainy spells each. The Monsoon trough is far off the Mumbai region due to which the city has managed to get light showers only. Moreover, similar weather conditions are likely to prevail in the city for another 24 hours. Hence, Mumbai has to wait for a day or two to be able to see some more good showers. However, possibility of few light spells is foreseen along with cloudy sky. Mumbai is expected to witness sultry weather conditions. Mornings are likely to remain breezy and increase in rainfall over the region is predicted only after 48 hours. Although irrespective of taking a few baby steps, Mumbai has already surpassed its daunting monthly mean few days back. As of now, rains are likely to take a backseat for the capital city of Maharashtra. Mumbai rains are again likely to intensify during the initial days of September.

Mumbai rains to take a short break

August 30, 2016 04:00 PM
Past few days were observed as a comeback for Mumbai rains wherein, the city witnessed some really good showers. Mumbai was blessed with good rains during last 3-4 days. However, the city managed to record only a few spells during last 24 hours. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, merely 1.6 mm rainy spells were recorded by the Santa Cruz observatory. Although irrespective of taking a few baby steps, Mumbai has already surpassed its daunting monthly mean few days back. This was possible due to few moderate to heavy spells in past couple of days. As of now, rains are likely to take a short break for the capital city of Maharashtra. However, the state capital is expected to witness on and off showers with a few isolated light spells for another 24-48 hours. Post which, Mumbai rains are again likely to intensify in the beginning of September.

Mumbai rains make a grand comeback

August 29, 2016 03:40 PM
After remaining silent for quite some time now, Mumbai rains are back with a bang again. The capital city of Maharashtra has been observing good rains from last 3 days now. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Colaba observatory recorded a whopping 49.2 mm of rainfall. On the contrary, during the similar time frame, heavy showers of 40.6 mm were recorded by the Santa Cruz observatory. Just a few days back, Mumbai rains were taking baby steps towards accomplishing their monthly target of observing 529.7 mm rainfall. But now, the city has already surpassed its monthly mean. Moreover, for next 24-48 hours, Mumbai is expected to witness light rains and this will remain until month end. However, intensity of rains are likely to pick up pace in the beginning of September.

Marginal increase in Mumbai rains likely

Aug 26, 2016 05:00 PM
Mumbai rains have only disappointed during the last few days. In fact, the maximum city has only been receiving light Monsoon rains. Rains haven’t picked up pace and due to light rains, Mumbai is taking baby steps towards its daunting monthly mean. The last 24 hours have also been not so good in terms of Monsoon rains. The Santa Cruz observatory has recorded 1.3 mm of rainfall. Meanwhile, Colaba has also witnessed light rains of a mere 2.8 mm of rainfall. However, due to the activated off shore trough along the West Coast, Monsoon rains are likely to increase marginally over Mumbai. Thus, during the next 24 hours, the maximum city may receive light to moderate showers. However, the possibility of heavy rains does not seem very likely. So far, Mumbai has recorded 408.3 mm of rainfall against its monthly average of 529.7 mm. With just a few days to go in August, it seems like Mumbai will not be able to surpass its monthly mean.

Mumbai likely to receive good Monsoon rains soon

August 25, 2016 06:00 PM
It was said earlier by Skymet Weather that Mumbai rains are picking up pace. But the intensity remained on the lighter side. The Maximum City has been recording on and off isolated Monsoon rains for the last many days. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Santa Cruz has recorded 5.3 mm of rain. There rains were light to moderate with isolate heavy showers were recorded in few place for Mumbai. The trough is now extending from Coastal Maharashtra up to Coastal Kerala. After the re-activation of the system, the weathermen predict that Mumbai will continue to witness light to moderate Monsoon during next 24 to 48 hours. And good hefty Monsoon shower are foresighted for the city after 48 hours. In the absence of significant rains the city is inching towards its monthly target slowly.

Mumbai rains pick up pace

Aug 24, 2016 12:30 PM
As reiterated by Skymet Weather, Mumbai rains have finally picked up pace though it was on the lighter side only. The state capital has been recording on and off patchy Monsoon rains for the last many days. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Santa Cruz has recorded 11.1 mm of rain, while Colaba Observatory received 10.3 mm of rain. The increase in rain activity can be attributed to the low pressure area marked over South Rajasthan. The system has infused fresh Monsoon surge that has in turn activated the off-shore trough running along the West Coast. The trough is now extending from Coastal Maharashtra up to North Kerala. With the systems to prevail for some more time, weathermen predict that Mumbai will continue to witness light to moderate Monsoon during next 24 to 48 hours. So far in August, the entertainment capital has recorded 401.8 mm of rain against its monthly average rainfall of 529.7 mm. Though significant rains have been missing but city is taking baby step to achieve its monthly target.

Good Monsoon rains to revisit Mumbai

August 23, 2016 14:15

At present, Mumbai is witnessing subdued rains from past few days. It seems as if Monsoon over the capital has taken a back seat. In a span of last 24 hours as well, Mumbai has observed light to moderate spells. During last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Colaba and Santa Cruz observatory both have recorded 9 mm of rainy spells. Nevertheless, situation seems to be favorable for Mumbai now. Rain intensity is expected to pick up pace during next 24-48 hours. Thus, Mumbai will continue to witness light to moderate spells. These good showers could be attributed to the strengthening of an off shore trough over Konkan & Goa. A Low Pressure Area can also be seen over Southeast Rajasthan along with a well-marked Low Pressure Area over Northeast Madhya Pradesh. Due to these weather systems, Monsoon surge and offshore trough will get some strength leading to moderate showers over north coastal Maharashtra including Mumbai. The actual rainfall figure for the season stands at 1534.8 mm against the normal rainfall figure of 1695.3 mm. That means the city has received 9% normal rainfall on the negative side.
