It was not even a week, when winter finally arrived in Delhi, Punjab and other parts of North India. And just when people started to cheer about the winter chill, foggy morning and the biting cold weather, things are slated to take a turn. After making such a late appearance over the country last week, the chilly weather is showing signs of retreating.
Both maximum and minimum temperatures increased marginally on Saturday across North India. The maximum temperature has been steadily increasing in Delhi since past few days. For instance, the maximum temperature in Delhi on 21st January settled at 15.1°C which has risen to 22°C on Saturday. Similarly, Agra witnessed day temperature settling at 15.3°C on 21st January which has risen and settled to close to 19°C on 23rd January. A further rise in day and night temperatures is also expected during next to two-three days as a fresh weather system is approaching the hills of North India.
Does this mean that winter is in an exit mode?
According to chief meteorologists at SkymetWeather, there is no intense weather system approaching Northwest India. A weak Western disturbance that will affect Western Himalayas on January 26 will not have much impact on the plains including Delhi. In fact, the weather system will change the wind pattern due to which minimum temperatures will begin to rise from 27th January onwards over the plains of North India.
The laidback sun which got used to hiding behind the clouds is likely to start showing up early in the coming days. This will also lead to a rise in day day temperature.
Dense to very dense fog will continue to persist in morning hours for another 24 to 48 hours. However, duration of fog will reduce gradually due to the thinning of the fog layer.
Cold day conditions will also abate from most parts of Punjab and few places in Haryana. However, few pockets will continue to reel under the wintry chill.
So clearly, people will savour the chilly mornings for a couple of days but it will become warm by afternoon. While the nip in the air will be present in the evening, night will continue to be cool. But if celebrating winter with bonfires and guarding yourself from the biting cold weather by way of thick woolens clothes was on your mind, then you may be the disappointing lot. Already predicted to be the warmer winter, 2016 may also be a shorter winter.
