According to Skymet, overcast sky and light to moderate rain is expected to persist in Mumbai for next two days. Even though moderate rain is expected to continue in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra, rainfall is likely to remain deficit in the city for July 2015. Due to absence of any heavy rainfall during July and dry weather for the first 20 days of the month, Mumbai is likely to bid adieu to July with a rainfall deficiency.

Updated on July 23, 2015 12:05 PM (IST): Mumbai rains slow down, to pick up again in 48 hours
After witnessing heavy showers for last couple of days, Monsoon rains in Mumbai and adjoining areas have slowed down a bit. However, weather activity is expected to pick up pace once again during next 48 hours.
Moderate to heavy rains were recorded throughout Wednesday but reduced towards night. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, no major activity is expected during next 24 to 48 hours, but spells of light to moderate rain cannot be ruled out on Thursday.
As per Skymet, the low pressure area over Central India which was responsible for good rainfall over Mumbai has weakened into a cyclonic circulation and moved far away from the Maharashtra region.
The system is currently giving rain over Saurashtra and Kutch regions of Gujarat and adjoining areas of Pakistan.
According to Skymet, another weather system in form of cyclonic circulation is moving towards Central India. As the system nears Maharashtra region, intensity of rain over Mumbai and neighbouring areas will increase once again.
So far, Mumbai has recorded 191.7 mm of rain and is far away from reaching its monthly average rainfall of 800 mm. With just seven days to go, chances of reaching monthly normal are bleak. But with weather conditions indicative of good rains, city might achieve the target or at least reach closer to it.

Updated on July 22, 2015 11:05 AM (IST): Mumbai and adjoining areas observe two days of heavy rain
The low pressure area over West Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan activated the prevailing off-shore trough from Konkan and Goa region upto Kerala coast, giving very good amounts of rain in Mumbai and its adjoining areas.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, Mumbai has received 110 mm of rain in a span of 48 hours, from 8:30 am on Monday. During the same period adjoining Palghar has recorded a whopping 494 mm of rain, while Thane has witnessed 170 mm of rain.
Though the system (LPA), which is supported by a cyclonic circulation is drifting away towards Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat region, chances of rain along the Konkan region still remains high, particularly north of Mumbai.
Updated on July 21, 2015 6:10 PM (IST): Monsoon in Mumbai is back
Monsoon in Mumbai took nearly a month-long haul before giving respite from hot and humid weather to the residents of Mumbai. Though incessant showers since last night have left roads and stations waterlogged in several parts of Mumbai. Train services were hit, hampering mobility of thousands of commuters, before resuming during the latter half of the day.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, heavy Monsoon showers in Mumbai are likely to continue for another 24 hours that may continue to keep normal life out of gear.

Updated on July 21, 2015 10:10 AM (IST): Heavy Monsoon showers return to Mumbai
As predicted by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, heavy Monsoon showers have finally returned to Mumbai after remaining dry for most of the July. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, city has recorded 61 mm of rain which is the first double digit figure in the month.
At present also, Mumbai is witnessing moderate showers and weather conditions indicate that moderate to heavy downpour will continue throughout the day. As per the forecast by Skymet, there may be a break thereafter but rains are expected to further pick up the intensity from July 23 onwards.
With this, pleasant weather conditions have also returned to the city ushering relief for Mumbaikars from warm and humid weather.
So far, Mumbai has recorded 96.7 mm of rain that is far behind the monthly normal of 800 mm. But now with the prolong spell of good rains, we expect speedy recovery and it may reach near normal.
According to Skymet, off-shore trough along the West Coast has gained strength due to the low pressure area over West Madhya Pradesh. As a result, the trough is now extending from Konkan & Goa region up to Kerala and giving weather over Mumbai and places along the trough line.
Updated on July 20, 2015 3:30 PM (IST): Good Monsoon rain in Mumbai in next 24 hours
The offshore trough along the West Coast is gaining strength and is likely to become more prominent in the coming days. Southwest Monsoon is already active in Kerala, Karnataka, Konkan & Goa. The rain belt will extend up to coastal parts of Maharashtra and Surat within next 24 hours.
Rain has been continuous for the last few days in Mumbai. Since July 6 the city of dreams has been receiving only light to very light rainfall. In fact, Mumbai has not received any heavy rain after June 23. Click here to read about the Monsoon performance in Mumbai till July 13. The last episode of good showers were witnessed from June 19 to 23. All thanks to the low pressure area over North Arabian Sea, which had intensified into a depression and entered Gujarat.
However, the Monsoon surge seems to be improving now. The offshore trough along the West Coast is gaining strength. It has already started bringing heavy Monsoon showers in Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, Konkan & Goa. The rain belt will now extend up to Coastal Maharashtra. Consequently, good Monsoon showers are likely in Coastal Maharashtra including Mumbai within next 24 hours.
Monsoon performed very well in the month of June in Mumbai. Mumbai recorded a total of 1174 mm of rain in June, breaking the all-time high of 1037.1 mm recorded in 1971. Click here to read the full story. However, rainfall decreased thereafter.
July is the rainiest month for Mumbai, with an average rainfall of 799.7 mm. According to the data available with Skymet Meteorology Division in India, in the month of July Mumbai has received a paltry 34.3 mm of rain till July 19.
