Cyclone Vardah gives record breaking rain in Bangalore

After the landfall, Cyclone Vardah has shown a weakening trend. At this very moment the cyclone has weakened into a depression and by evening it is expected to be a well-marked low pressure system.

Thanks to Vardah, Bangalore has been witnessing continuous light to moderate rainfall from 1030 pm last night. Along with Bangalore, other nearby districts of Mandya, Chamrajnagar, Kolar, Mysore Tumkur, Hassan and Madikeri have also received good showers. And during the next 24 hours, similar weather conditions can be expected over the region.

In other way, we can say most of the district of south interior Karnataka will continue to receive light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy spells. Thereafter, the weather system is expected to move further over west and reemerge over southeast Arabian Sea as a cyclonic circulation and continue to move in west direction.

The rain intensity is expected to reduce drastically after 24 hours over south interior Karnataka and dry weather is most likely to prevail over the region.

In the last 24 hours, Bangalore airport observatory has recorded 69 mm of rains while Bangalore city has recorded 60.8 mm of rainfall. The monthly average rainfall of Bangalore for December is 15.7 mm, so quadruple times the monthly average rainfall has been recorded in the span of 24 hours. These rains have also broken the record of last 10 years, with 2012 and 2009 recording 23.5 mm & 23.4 mm of rainfall respectively.
