After witnessing some heavy rains last week, weather over Chennai has gone dry. Now, Chennai rains are all set to make a reappearance.
According to Skymet Weather, a fresh weather system has been brewing in southeast and eastcentral Bay of Bengal that can be presently seen as a well-marked low pressure area. The system is most likely to intensify further into a depression and continue to move northwestwards. With this, wind pattern will change to northeasterlies.
As a result, we can expect light rains and thundershowers over Chennai during the next 24 hours. Sky conditions will remain partly cloudy to cloudy.
However, rains will depart the city thereafter and weather will go dry. According weathermen, the system is likely to intensify further and travel further in northwest direction, away from Chennai. It will then take away all the moisture and the winds will concentrate around the system.
December has started on rainy note for Chennai that has been highly rain deficit. Until November, Northeast Monsoon has been subdued over the entire Peninsular India.
Chennai has recorded mere 50 mm of rain in November against the monthly average of 407 mm. However, situation improved in December with formation of Cyclone Nada.
Till now in December, the city has recorded more than 100 mm and with weathermen hopeful of some more rains in the coming days, the month may end on a good note.
