A long day’s work leaves you exhausted and should generally translate into a good night’s sleep. But for a few of us, nights are long and unending. Insomnia has become a very common problem, especially among today’s youth. A sound sleep seems like a distant dream. A few events that take place at night can actually trigger insomnia.
The tick-tock of the clock in your room, the multi colored notification light on your phone, or a just a small click on the door is all it takes for an insomniac to stay awake all night. While it may not be an easy task to tackle insomnia, it isn’t impossible either.
When sleeping at night, make sure the room is pitch dark and there is no light entering your room. You do not want any kind of light to be a hindrance between you and your peaceful sleep. Keep your phone upside down so that any activity on your phone does not wake you up. If needed, put it on silent mode and feel free to switch off the vibration on that silly little gadget.
While power naps are a great way to keep oneself refreshed and stress free, it may be a different story altogether for insomniacs. If you end up taking a nap, the idea of taking a good night’s sleep may end up as an unfulfilled dream. Even if you are feeling sleepy during the day, drink some water or go for a stroll. A cup of coffee may also do the trick. They key is to stay awake and tire yourself out.
One of the main reasons for insomnia is worrying about the next day. So, while sleeping make sure that you do not keep any clock at a spot where you can see it at night. It gets extremely difficult for clock watchers to get a good sleep after all. You tend to worry about the number of hours left for you to sleep. And yes, keep your cell phones upside down too, as nearly all phones display the time on the lock screen.
Back pains may be another cause for your insomnia trouble. The pain need not necessarily wake you up but it will cause disruptions in your peaceful sleep. You can keep a pillow between your legs for a better posture of sleep. Try out different number of pillows and see which combination works for you. Do back exercises if needed.
You may want to blame your pillow for disturbed sleep and it won't be wrong to do so. Pillows that are too flat or stiff may end up causing neck pain. Try to get yourself a pillow which keeps your neck at one position. You can also elevate your heads with a few extra pillows if needed. Insomnia isn’t that hard to tackle, all you need is a bit of patience and a little bit of an effort. So go ahead, a good night's sleep is just a few steps away.
