Winter Storm Niko is all set to target the Northeastern region of the United States. During this winter season, the northeastern region has not witnessed too many winter storms. However, Niko is about to change it as heavy weather activity is expected to wreak havoc over the region.
Some of the major cities of Northeast United States are in for at least six inches of snowfall. Travel delays are quite a possibility as at least 2200 flights have been cancelled across many parts of the Northeast.

Travel Disruptions: Since the storm is expected to dump heaps of snow over the Northeastern region, travel delays will affect the residents. In fact, over 2200 flights have already been delayed across New York City, Philadelphia, Boston as well as New England. Roads will also become slippery due to the accumulation of ice and snow; thus, residents are advised to avoid travel.
Several inches of snow: The residents should gear up for at least a few inches of snow during the storm. In fact, there is a possibility that snow fall at the rate of around two inches per hour at times. Parts of Pennsylvania and West Virginia are expected to witness at least six inches of snow or more. The big apple, Philadelphia and Boston will also observe a snow show. Blizzard conditions are expected over both Long Island and New England. In fact, Northeast is going to as much snow or even more as it hasn't seen in the entire season.
Niko will affect 12 States: Not one, not two but 12 US states are likely to be affected by Winter Storm Niko. Right from New York and Ohio to Delaware, Maine, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, and West Virginia; all these states are in the path of the storm. While not all areas will receive heavy rain and snow, preparedness is a necessity during this time.
Northeast Snow Deficit: A few areas in Northeast United States may observe more snow that any other snow during this winter season. There is a snowfall deficit in several northeast US cities. However, Storm Niko could help the states get rid of the snowfall deficit. Good rains are likely for many areas of Northeast United States where drought conditions are prevailing.
Snow, when and where: The snow show will begin from the Mid Atlantic region, thereafter moving towards the Northeast United States. During the early evening hours of Thursday, snow show will begin over New England. Maine may record snow around late evening. Light snowfall is also expected over the Upper and the Lower Great Lakes by Friday. The weekend will bring heavy snowfall over the major metro cities of Northeast US.
