The very severe cyclonic storm Hudhud has now turned into a depression, moving away from coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha and heading towards Southern Chhattisgarh. The system has not lost its steam and is still causing good rain over parts of Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh and East Uttar Pradesh.
Cyclone Hudhud has left a trail of destruction in Andhra Pradesh and parts of Odisha, leaving over 20 people killed and nearly 5,00,000 people homeless.
Though the system has tracked away from coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha as it weakens further, moderate rain has been observed in last 24 hours in parts of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
While Pendra in Chhattisgarh received moderate rain of 168 mm in past 24 hours, Bilaspur 82 mm and Durg 68mm, Satna and Umaria in East Madhya Pradesh received 99 mm and 65 mm of rain respectively in the same span. Parts of Uttar Pradesh too received moderate to light showers.
Currently situated 120 km away from Southwest of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and Satna, Madhya Pradesh, the system is weakening into a low pressure, spreading towards Northeast M.P. and Northern Chhattisgarh. Rain is likely to occur in next 24 hours in parts of East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Northern Chhattisgarh.
Cyclone Hudhud after making landfall on Sunday moved northwestward and continued as a cyclonic storm for more than 12 hours, which generally is not the case. Cyclones after making landfall fail to maintain their storm characteristics for a very long time and weaken rapidly
