The low pressure area in the Andaman Seas is expected to become a well-marked low pressure in the next 24 hours. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are expected to witness increase in rain. Major parts of these islands will continue to experience rain with isolated heavy falls in the next three days. The weather system is expected to move towards southeast Bay of Bengal.
However, the northeast monsoon rain will remain subdued in the next few days as the weather system (low pressure area) will take at least four to five days to affect eastern coast especially in Tamil Nadu and south coastal Andhra Pradesh.
According to our model forecasts, the weather system will move westward and is unlikely to affect rest of northcoastal Andhra Pradesh or Odisha. It may first move westward to reach southwest Bay of Bengal and then southwestwards to affect Sri Lanka.
After its 'on time' arrival, northeast monsoon had started with a bang but since then it has remained subdued. Parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and south interior Karnataka have received rain but only to record below average or deficient rainfall till now.
10 out of 14 District in Kerala are short on northeast monsoon rain. In Tamil Nadu, 13 out of 32 districts have witnessed deficient rain while 8 of them have received normal rain in the week from 31st of October to 6th of November.
Temperatures in south India
The areas that come in the ambit of northeast monsoon rain over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, south interior Karnataka and south Andhra Pradesh will continue to witness just above the average day temperatures due to lack of rain. Minimum temperatures will remain near or just above the normal during the next two to three days.
